Lettering ladies

#LLLEssons Series

"Make Time for Playtime" lettering by Kristle Marshall for Lettering Ladies.

Lettered for Lettering Ladies, a collective of artists celebrating and generating collaboration between creatives. I was asked to answer the prompt: “What advice would you give your younger creative self?”

I lettered “Make time for playtime” because looking back, I spent a lot of time trying to survive by overworking and jamming my schedule with work. Now, I’m trying to reintroduce discovery into my life and creative process.

Playtime is something that should be held sacred to us as creatives. It should be a space from client constraints, high expectations and performance. Playtime is about having fun, daring to try new things, and laughing in the face of failure. Through experimentation, I am able to find new processes that resonate with me and that I find joy in; I am able to reconnect with and expand my identity and what is important to me.

This time doesn’t end with a cash deposit, but enriches me in ways that will inevitably manifest in my work and how I connect with others.
