Words + Music T-Shirt Design

I had the incredible pleasure of creating a t-shirt design for the Audible Shack activation for the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

I was invited to sample Audibles Words + Music series and create a design inspired by what I heard. In the series artists share insights from their journey as musicians and the stories behind some of their biggest hits. As someone with a deep appreciation for music, I truly enjoyed exploring the Words + Music catalog.

The amazing Jason Naylor, Toby Triumph, and WKNDRS also contributed designs.

PAY IT FORWARD

My design was inspired by Gary Clark Jr.’s Deep Soul Lowdown, in which the spirit of cultural exchange, the passing down (and around) of influence is a formative practice. This was well illustrated in his exploits with fellow young guitarist Eve, and continues throughout his growth and development as an artist. The richness of Gary’s musical education started in the home and expanded through the introduction of records from young friends and the legends of his local blues scene.

These narratives are imbued with the value of stewardship. What do we do with the knowledge and influence passed on to us? Gary Clark Jr. also touches on the idea of revival of traditions (in his case blues) vs carrying forward genres into realms that may be more easily understood here and now. This work is inspired by the time honored tradition of putting each other on even as the medium changes.
